Some believe that after the digitization of the yuan, the internationalization process of the RMB could be significantly accelerated. Tan Yaling,院长 of the China Academy of Foreign Exchange Investment and chief economist, said in an interview that the advancement of digital currency may assist RMB internationalization but cannot replace it. Therefore, the development of digital RMB should maintain a steady pace and rationality. Ultimately, making the RMB freely convertible is the fundamental goal of its internationalization.
