On July 13, 2019, Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission approved four new cryptocurrency service providers to legally operate in the country. In addition to authorizing a new cryptocurrency exchange, the government also formally approved the nation's first three digital token portals. At the same time, new rules, conditions, and procedures were introduced for digital asset businesses.
On July 13, 2018, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres revealed that he had established a "High-level Panel on Digital Cooperation," which explicitly included blockchain technology on its agenda. Guterres stated that the panel would bring together 20 prominent figures from industry, civil society, and academia to explore the impact of blockchain technology on the global economy and society. It was also disclosed that the panel would be co-chaired by American philanthropist Melinda Gates and Alibaba founder Jack Ma.
