TechFlow reports, July 10, UBS stated that as Artificial Intelligence (AI) demand continues to grow and Long-Term Agreement (LTA) negotiations are ongoing, the memory chip market cycle is "strengthening further", with the structural supply shortage situation expected to last at least until mid-2028. UBS expects full-year total revenue for the memory chip industry to reach $992 billion in 2026. By 2027, this figure is projected to nearly double, reaching $1.76 trillion.
The main driver behind this growth is High Bandwidth Memory (HBM), a type of DRAM dedicated to AI accelerators (such as NVIDIA's GPUs). UBS predicts that HBM demand in 2026 will grow 90% year-on-year, reaching approximately 33.1 billion Gb. Demand is expected to grow another 77% in 2027, reaching approximately 58.7 billion Gb.
