TechFlow News, April 14: According to a source familiar with the matter, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s technology team is seeking access to Anthropic’s Mythos AI model to begin identifying system vulnerabilities.
The source stated that Sam Kokes, Chief Information Officer of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, aims to gain access to the model as soon as possible—potentially as early as this week. Anthropic has so far granted access to the model only to a limited number of organizations. The source added that Kokes briefed the Treasury’s cybersecurity team on the technology last week and instructed them to prepare for the ultimate threats posed by powerful AI systems.
Last week, Treasury Secretary Bessent and Federal Reserve Chair Powell convened an emergency meeting with Wall Street leaders, expressing concerns that the Mythos model could usher in an era of heightened cyber risk. Anthropic has issued a warning that, unless companies test their own systems and implement defenses prior to broad deployment, the model could potentially facilitate cyberattacks. (Jinshi)
