TechFlow News, March 11: According to The Block, Aave founder Stani Kulechov published a post outlining the protocol’s future development path, arguing that DAO governance models require reform. He stated that current DAO operations are extremely difficult—“we’re fighting our own organizational structure every day.” Governance processes are sluggish, involving weeks of forum discussions and multiple rounds of voting, while competitors iterate rapidly.
Kulechov noted that DAOs easily become politicized: “Participants pick sides, follow the loudest voices, and form political alliances. When politicians win, builders’ games end.” He advocated focusing governance on truly critical matters requiring collective decision-making—such as major protocol upgrades and treasury strategy—while delegating other matters to the execution layer, where organizational leaders should drive implementation.
This statement follows recent governance controversies within the Aave DAO. Core contributors BGD Labs and ACI announced their withdrawal after disagreeing with Aave Labs over the “Aave Will Win” proposal. Kulechov emphasized that Aave must remain agile to capture the global multi-trillion-dollar lending market and stated plans to establish a multi-year vision centered around the $AAVE token.
