TechFlow News: On March 6, according to U.S. media outlet Statescoop, the New York State Legislature is reviewing a bill that would prohibit AI chatbots from providing legal or medical advice and allow users to sue operators of noncompliant chatbots.
The Senate Bill S7263 was introduced in the previous legislative session and passed unanimously (6–0) last Wednesday before the Internet and Technology Committee. It is part of a broader legislative package aimed at regulating AI chatbots. The bill specifically targets AI chatbots impersonating licensed professionals—such as doctors or lawyers—and bans them from delivering any “substantive responses, information, or advice” that may violate professional licensing laws or constitute the unauthorized practice of law.
