TechFlow News, February 24: According to Sing Tao Daily, Hong Kong police have arrested an employee of a cryptocurrency trading platform suspected of stealing approximately 2.67 million USDT—worth roughly HK$20.87 million—from around 20 customers.
The suspect is a 34-year-old male surnamed Choi, who worked as a network engineer at the company for four years and was primarily responsible for managing its mobile application. Since early January this year, the company has received customer reports of missing funds; investigations revealed that the suspect had logged into the company’s database and accessed relevant customer accounts. The incident occurred at an investment firm providing cryptocurrency settlement services located in the South Tower of Concord Plaza, Science Museum Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. The case has now been handed over to Unit 9 of the Yau Tsim Criminal Investigation Department.
