Hacker Returns 320.8 Stolen Bitcoins to South Korean Prosecutors, Worth ~$21.4 Million
According to The Block, in August last year, the Gwangju District Prosecutors’ Office in South Korea lost Bitcoin seized from a gambling platform after investigators mistakenly visited a phishing website and entered the recovery seed phrase—resulting in the theft of approximately 320.8 BTC (valued at roughly $21–29 million at the time). On February 18, the hacker returned all 320.8 BTC (worth approximately $21.4 million) to the prosecutors’ wallet. The funds were subsequently transferred to a domestic exchange for secure custody. The prosecutors froze transactions from the hacker’s wallet, making it difficult for the hacker to cash out—this may have been the primary reason for the return. The hacker’s identity remains unknown.
