TechFlow reports that on January 22, Coinbase announced the formation of its “Quantum Computing and Blockchain Independent Advisory Committee” on January 21, 2026, to address potential challenges quantum computing may pose to blockchain cryptographic security in the future. Composed of world-leading experts including Scott Aaronson and Dan Boneh, the committee will publish research reports and provide security recommendations. Coinbase stated that while elliptic-curve cryptography used in modern blockchains remains secure today, large-scale quantum computers could ultimately weaken or break these systems—making proactive preparation essential. This committee forms part of Coinbase’s post-quantum security roadmap, and its first assessment report is scheduled for release early next year.
