TechFlow reports that on January 20, according to ABS-CBN News, Pasay City police in the Philippines rescued a Chinese citizen who had been kidnapped by Chinese abductors on January 16. During her illegal detention by four knife-wielding assailants, the victim was forced to transfer approximately $400,000 worth of cryptocurrency and an additional $14,000 in cash.
Police said the kidnappers broke into the victim's apartment on Roxas Boulevard, claiming she owed them $1 million, and threatened to harvest her organs or sell her into captivity in Cambodia if she failed to pay. The victim was rescued after sending a distress message to friends. Police then raided the apartment and arrested two suspects, while two others remain at large.
According to information from the anti-kidnapping task force, the suspects face charges of kidnapping and serious illegal detention under Article 267 of the Revised Penal Code.
