TechFlow news, January 2nd, according to The Block report, data shows that the Ethereum network's 7-day moving average transaction count reached 1.87 million on December 31, 2025, setting a new historical high. This surpassed the record of 1.61 million set during the peak of the NFT and DeFi frenzy on May 10, 2021, and was also higher than the recent high of 1.73 million recorded on August 9, 2025.
The number of active addresses on the Ethereum network also reached a phase high at the end of 2025, hitting 728,904, the highest level since May 12, 2021. Additionally, the number of new addresses on December 31, 2025, reached 270,160, marking the largest single-day increase since early 2018.
Nick Ruck, Research Director at LVRG Research, stated that the recent surge in on-chain activity is primarily driven by network upgrades. These upgrades have significantly reduced transaction fees, improved scalability, and attracted more institutional participation through ETFs and the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA).
