TechFlow news, December 31 — According to the latest data from the FBI, in 2025, U.S. citizens lost over $333 million through Bitcoin ATMs to scams, a significant increase from $250 million in 2024. There are currently more than 45,000 Bitcoin ATMs across the United States, allowing users to quickly transfer cash into any digital wallet worldwide, with funds nearly impossible to recover once the transaction is complete. Law enforcement has begun taking action, with the Office of the Attorney General for Washington, D.C. filing a lawsuit against major operator Athena Bitcoin, accusing it of having 93% of its transactions linked to fraud. Several states have passed legislation to regulate these machines, and experts are calling for stricter protective measures such as daily deposit limits.
