TechFlow news, December 11 — According to IBTimes, Spanish police recently cracked a violent kidnapping case targeting cryptocurrency holders. A man and his partner were abducted; the man was shot in the leg while attempting to escape and was later found dead in a forest near Mijas, Malaga province. Police have arrested five suspects in Spain and charged four others in Denmark, highlighting the transnational nature of such criminal networks.
As cryptocurrency values rise, similar violent incidents are surging globally. In 2024, multiple kidnappings targeting crypto holders have occurred in Canada, France, the United States, and Paris. Criminals typically hold victims captive for hours, forcing them to disclose wallet passwords or provide biometric access.
Experts warn that these recurring crimes indicate criminals are developing specialized knowledge to target digital assets, posing a serious threat to cryptocurrency holders.
