TechFlow news, December 8 — According to The Block, ZKsync announced plans to deprecate ZKsync Lite at some point in 2026.
ZKsync Lite, formerly known as ZKsync 1.0, launched in June 2020 as an Ethereum Layer 2 scaling solution focused on payments. The network supports token transfers, atomic swaps, and NFT minting but lacks smart contract functionality. According to L2BEAT data, approximately $50 million in user funds remain bridged on ZKsync Lite, though daily operations on the network have fallen below 200. ZKsync stated that funds remain secure and withdrawal functionality will continue operating throughout the process.
After Matter Labs launched the fully functional zkEVM ZKsync Era in March 2023, active development on ZKsync Lite was halted. ZKsync emphasized that this deprecation will not affect other products, and the team will focus on systems built on ZK Stack, Prividiums, and the broader ZKsync ecosystem.
