TechFlow news, October 10 — According to Cointelegraph, the Global Encryption Coalition (GEC) recently sent a letter to the Irish government strongly urging it to abandon plans for the proposed Communications Interception and Lawful Access Bill. The bill would allow law enforcement agencies to access encrypted messages, which the GEC warns could severely threaten cybersecurity, increase the risk of cybercrime, and potentially drive technology companies out of Ireland. As a hub hosting European headquarters for numerous tech giants, Ireland's legislative decisions carry significant weight. The GEC also urged Ireland to withdraw its support for the EU's "chat control" legislation, which requires scanning messages before encryption and has recently faced opposition from Germany. Experts emphasize that weakening encryption not only endangers personal privacy but also poses national security risks.
