Sahara AI's first-phase data platform Beta testnet officially launches, ushering in a new era of decentralized AI
Over 780,000 users flocked in, with more than 10,000 lucky testers getting early access.
On December 18, 2024, Sahara AI announced the highly anticipated launch of its Phase One Data Platform beta testnet, attracting over 780,000 user sign-ups. Over 10,000 waitlisted participants were among the first to gain access, making it one of the hottest projects in the Web3 + AI space. Through the testnet, everyday users can contribute to the AI ecosystem by collecting, refining, and annotating data—and earn substantial rewards while helping build the world’s first decentralized AI collaboration platform.

Breakthrough Testnet: Empowering AI Annotation with Blockchain
As Binance founder CZ once noted, “AI data annotation combined with blockchain has natural advantages—low cost, no geographical restrictions, and support for instant cryptocurrency payments.” Sahara AI tokenizes annotation tasks, connecting developers and everyday users through its platform to overcome the limitations of traditional, overly centralized AI development. Tyler Zhou, COO and Co-Founder of Sahara AI (former Investment Director at Binance Labs), said: “Sahara AI is building an AI ecosystem anyone can participate in. Whether you’re a developer, data contributor, or regular user, you can receive fair rewards for your contributions and unlock the value of diverse AI assets through blockchain and decentralized finance.”
In the initial test phase, participants can choose high-value data tasks from fields such as creator economy, finance, and science. After completing tasks, users are rewarded based on their contribution level, accuracy, and consistency, with leaderboards in place to incentivize top performers. All rewards are distributed in points, laying the foundation for future token distribution within the ecosystem.
Sean Ren, CEO of Sahara AI, Professor of AI at the University of Southern California, and Chair of the Viterbi Center, said: “Our goal is to build a fair and inclusive AI ecosystem where anyone can become part of the AI revolution through Sahara AI. In the future, AI model developers will be able to access high-quality data, models, and development tools via the platform, significantly lowering the barriers to AI development.”
The testnet launch marks the first stage in the development of the Sahara AI ecosystem. Going forward, Sahara AI plans to roll out additional features including an AI data marketplace and model hub, further enabling the tradability, traceability, and decentralized collaboration of AI assets.
