Never thought I'd find myself going head-to-head with the German government on my investment journey.
Markets have been shaken up recently by Mt. Gox and the German government—no longer just abstract Sword of Damocles scenarios, but actual large transfers pouring out from German government wallet addresses every day.
But no worries—no matter how turbulent the market gets, zero-cost interaction will always be your safe haven.
Today’s featured project is Sonic, a Solana Layer 2 initiative that raised $16 million in funding.
It's unclear whether there's genuine technical innovation demand within the ecosystem or simply a new narrative hunger from the market, but Solana Layer 2 projects have suddenly emerged en masse, with niche segments already claimed. Sonic positions itself as a Solana Layer 2 built specifically for gaming. Backed by Mirror World, it supports all EVM smart contracts and features a native game engine, offering comprehensive on-chain game development components for developers.
In June this year, Sonic announced a $12 million Series A round led by Bitkraft Ventures, with participation from prominent investors including OKX Ventures, Mirana Ventures, and Mask Network. Combined with its $4 million seed round back in March 2022, Sonic has now publicly raised a total of $16 million.

Odyssey, Begin!
Currently, the way to participate for free is to claim test tokens and join the Sonic Odyssey. The Sonic Odyssey tasks are straightforward, mainly involving social media engagement, daily check-ins, and gameplay experiences. Rewards come in the form of mystery boxes, whose exact utility hasn’t been disclosed yet—think of them as points for now.
-
Backpack Wallet Installation and Testnet Setup
Sonic currently only supports Backpack and Nightly wallets. Given Nightly’s lower popularity, we’ll use Backpack as an example here.

After installation, you can either create a new wallet address or import an existing one.
Once your wallet and address are set up, follow these steps to configure the Sonic testnet:
Click top-left Settings → Preferences → Enable Developer Mode → Return to wallet homepage and click Add Network → Find Sonic Testnet under Test Networks

-
Claim Test Tokens
Visit the faucet site:
Enter your wallet address, verify, and claim your tokens. This diligent writer claimed twice and received 2 Sonic SOL.

-
Odyssey Task 1: Social Media Engagement
Go to the Odyssey page and click the most prominent button to enter the interaction section.

Start by completing the social media tasks: follow the official Twitter and join the official Discord. Upon completion, you’ll receive 3 mystery boxes.

-
Odyssey Task 2: Daily Check-In
After finishing the social tasks, click Check-in on the left sidebar. This task requires using test tokens as gas. There’s no difficulty involved—just consistency. According to the official rules:
-
Consecutive check-ins for 1–7 days: 1 mystery box
-
Consecutive check-ins for 8–14 days: 2 mystery boxes
-
Over 14 consecutive days: 3 mystery boxes

-
Odyssey Task 3: Claim Rewards Based on On-Chain Transaction Count
This is a passive task—the more transactions you initiate, the more boxes you earn. To increase transaction count, you can transfer between wallets or simply keep doing daily Odyssey tasks.
Complete 100 transactions to claim 6 mystery boxes.

-
Odyssey Task 4: Referral
Referrals are self-explanatory—one mystery box per successful invite. If you have multiple accounts, small accounts can refer each other, though this does require corresponding Twitter and Discord accounts.

-
Odyssey Task 7: Participate in Lottery
Use test tokens to enter the lottery. One winner is drawn per block (a new block every 0.4 seconds), receiving 1 mystery box. Every 10,000th block winner receives an additional 10,000 mystery boxes.
Based on testing, a 5-roll batch generates multiple transaction records. Using multi-rolls is also convenient for progressing Task 3.
The win rate is fairly high, although the interface can lag during interactions.

-
Odyssey Task 8: Gameplay Experience
Currently, three games are live on the Sonic Odyssey page: SnakeLite, FoMoney, and JogoJogo. SnakeLite is a TON-based mini-game from Telegram, inconvenient to play on PC. Here, we'll demonstrate gameplay using JogoJogo.

JogoJogo is a prediction platform. Upon entry, you’ll see options to register via email or wallet—simply connect your wallet.

After logging in, click the green "Deposit" button in the top right corner.

Click the purple button to claim test tokens for predictions.

Return to the main page and select any option tile.

On the prediction page, use test tokens to place bets—interaction complete.

Conclusion
That wraps up the Sonic testnet interaction guide. The process is simple and completely free. The key is consistent daily check-ins. Testing confirms that the Odyssey lottery task allows repeated entries, and hitting the jackpot could significantly boost your rewards.
As for the current games available on Sonic, they offer some entertainment value, but not much. The experience of needing to sign every single action via wallet really drags down gameplay.
Nowadays, older blockchain games have faded away, while new ones—like TON-based mini-games—are rising. Sonic’s timing is certainly intriguing. However, this article focuses on providing a practical hands-on guide rather than deep project analysis.
We at TechFlow will continue tracking Sonic’s future developments—stay tuned!
