Yuga's New CEO Open Letter: Setting Sail Again in a Crypto-Native Way

On February 22nd Beijing time, Yuga Labs—recently embroiled in controversy—announced a major leadership change: co-founder Garga.eth (Greg Solano) declared his return as CEO of Yuga Labs.
Upon resuming leadership, Garga.eth published an open letter on the X platform outlining his vision for Yuga Labs as a whole, as well as specific development plans for BAYC, Otherside, and game development initiatives.

I will once again serve as CEO of Yuga Labs.
Wylie (Yuga Labs’ other co-founder, commonly known as GordonGoner) and I are deeply grateful for Daniel’s (Daniel Alegre, Garga.eth’s predecessor as CEO) contributions to Yuga Labs, as well as for his guidance over the past year. I am excited to be back at the helm as we enter this new chapter.
Looking ahead, we need to operate across the company in a more “crypto-native” way. Wylie and I believe several priorities stand out:
The first priority concerns the development of BAYC.
Thank you all for attending the first Bored Meeting last weekend. In short, our view of BAYC is that its value lies in its networked community. This is why ApeFest was so special, why Made by Apes creations gained rapid popularity, why the club itself has remained beloved, and how BAYC has been able to partner with some of the world’s top brands.
Within Yuga Labs, we want the BAYC team to have as much freedom as possible to pursue their vision. This requires greater focus and operational flexibility to enable all of the above—and to create even more magic like what we’ve achieved before.
Focus and flexibility require autonomy, and we’ve already taken the first step—BAYC LLC will be established as a subsidiary of Yuga Labs, responsible for all matters related to BAYC. The BAYC team already includes outstanding members, but several key roles remain open for the right candidates.
The second priority concerns the development of Otherside.
In our vision, Otherside should become Web3’s “living room”—a default space for play and socializing, no matter which community you belong to.
Otherside is an ambitious endeavor, and there’s still much work to do. Only through more frequent participation and experience can we build it together into something greater. As we continue building Otherside, we envision it remaining open and continuously iterative. I’m confident in the team’s renewed efforts on this front. Starting this week, we’ll enhance community communication, beginning with the “Apes Come Home” event. Over the coming year, we also plan to increase the frequency of our community updates.
The third priority concerns game development.
We need to sharpen our focus on game models that deliver real utility to Yuga Labs. For us, this means pursuing two strategies:
First, creating wildly fun gameplay experiences that appeal to anyone young at heart—the crazier and more mainstream, the better, just like Dookey Dash. We aim to open channels that bring millions of new users into our ecosystem, creating opportunities for creators, IP holders, and professional players alike. I’m excited to see progress in this area alongside our partner Faraway (a game development studio).
Second, building truly “crypto-native” game mechanics and platforms, such as [redacted] (a confidential game referenced in the BAYC roadmap).
It has been three years since Yuga Labs was founded, and we’re incredibly excited about the many plans ahead. I’m deeply grateful to every member of each brand team here. There’s still much to accomplish, and without this team and the builder community, we couldn’t realize our vision. Thank you all for your support.
