TechFlow, September 24 — According to The New York Times, two Democratic senators have requested the inspectors general of the Department of Commerce and the Department of State to investigate whether Trump administration officials violated ethics rules in connection with multibillion-dollar deals involving the United Arab Emirates.
The report indicates these deals involve two matters: first, a U.S. plan allowing the UAE to import American-designed artificial intelligence computer chips; second, a $2 billion investment by UAE government-backed companies into a cryptocurrency firm founded by the Trump family and the family of Steve Witkoff. Witkoff formally served as a Department of State employee during the first half of this year before moving to work at the White House.
Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Elissa Slotkin of Michigan wrote in a letter to the inspectors general: "The pattern of these transactions is deeply concerning."
