TechFlow news, September 21 — According to Cryptopolitan, UK police have arrested a teenager linked to the hacking group Scattered Spider. The group is accused of extorting over $115 million in ransom payments from more than 100 organizations.
The 19-year-old suspect, Thalha Jubair, is suspected of involvement in approximately 120 cyber intrusions. Court documents show that the group carried out multiple ransomware attacks between May 2022 and the present, with five victim companies paying around $89.5 million in ransoms. The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) stated that it has seized $36 million in digital assets from server wallets controlled by Jubair.
Investigations revealed that Jubair was traced due to his use of ransom proceeds to purchase gaming gift cards and food deliveries. The group previously used SIM-swapping and social engineering tactics in its attacks, targeting several critical institutions including the U.S. federal court system.
