TechFlow news, September 3 — According to Decrypt, a recent security report from GK8 reveals that cybercriminals are recruiting professional voice impersonators on underground forums to launch sophisticated "vishing" (voice phishing) attacks targeting U.S. cryptocurrency executives.
These highly customized attacks focus on high-value individuals with access to custodial infrastructure and private keys, with operators earning up to $20,000 per month. Attackers leverage meticulously gathered personal information of executives, deepfake technology, and voice changers to conduct social engineering attacks by impersonating banks, crypto services, and government agencies.
Tanya Bekker, Head of Security Research at GK8, warned that within the next 12–18 months, distinguishing between genuine and fake voices will become increasingly difficult, urging crypto organizations to implement specific protocols and training to counteract voice and video-based social engineering tactics.
