TechFlow news, August 31 — According to The Block, an Indian anti-corruption court today delivered its verdict in a 2018 cryptocurrency ransom case, sentencing 14 defendants to life imprisonment. Notably, the convicted include 11 police officers and a former legislator. In the case, victim Shailesh Bhatt was lured to a gas station and then kidnapped, after which he was forced to pay 34 bitcoins (approximately $150,000) as ransom. A total of 172 witnesses were summoned during the trial, but 92 changed their testimonies. It is worth noting that victim Bhatt himself is currently facing charges from law enforcement for allegedly kidnapping a BitConnect promoter; that case remains under trial.
