TechFlow news, on August 7, according to Jimu News, the Baokang County People's Procuratorate in Xiangyang City, Hubei Province recently filed public prosecution in a case involving the use of cryptocurrency to transfer funds obtained through fraud. In this case, five suspects used cryptocurrency transactions to help fraudsters move illegal funds totaling 2.09 million yuan.
In the case, the criminal gang created group chats via overseas encrypted communication apps and repeatedly converted between cryptocurrencies and fiat currencies to conceal the source of the funds. The prosecution has successfully recovered over 1.5 million yuan in illicit proceeds, which will be returned proportionally to 17 victims. The court sentenced the five defendants to fixed-term imprisonment ranging from two years and six months to three years for concealing and covering up the proceeds of crime.
