TechFlow, July 17 — According to Decrypt, Roger Ver ("Bitcoin Jesus") has sued Spain in an attempt to block his extradition to the United States. U.S. authorities accuse Ver of tax evasion, mail fraud, and filing false tax returns. Ver's legal team argues that the extradition order violates his right to liberty and emphasizes that Spanish authorities have not adequately assessed the uncertainty surrounding the U.S. treatment of cryptocurrency taxation. Ver renounced his U.S. citizenship in 2014 and became an early investor in cryptocurrency and a promoter of Bitcoin Cash (BCH). The U.S. alleges that he sold bitcoin in 2017 but failed to report the proceeds to the IRS, after which he was arrested in Spain.
