TechFlow, July 14 — According to Decrypt, former voting machine auditor Michal Pospieszalski has warned that serious security vulnerabilities discovered in 2006 remain unpatched in U.S. election systems. As CEO of blockchain security firm MatterFi, he pointed out that current voting machines lack end-to-end cryptographic verification, making it impossible to prevent ballots from being double-counted or verify their legitimacy. Pospieszalski recommended adopting a solution based on David Chaum's cryptographic technology, which would assign an anonymous serial number to each ballot to ensure uniqueness—without requiring complex blockchain implementation. He stated such improvements could be achieved through software updates but would require legislation to compel voting machine manufacturers to act. Meanwhile, New York State has proposed a bill to study the application of blockchain technology in election security.
