TechFlow, July 11 — According to Jinshi Data, Brazilian President Lula stated that Brazil can survive without trade with the United States and will seek other partners to replace it, a sharp response to U.S. President Trump after he threatened to impose a 50% tariff on Brazil.
"We will have to find other partners to buy our products. Trade between Brazil and the U.S. accounts for 1.7% of Brazil's GDP," Lula said. "It's not as if we cannot survive without the U.S."
Lula also said Brazil has no obligation to continue using the U.S. dollar in trade, reiterating remarks he made at the BRICS summit held in Rio de Janeiro last weekend, where he urged world leaders to find ways to reduce reliance on the dollar in international trade.
