TechFlow, June 27 — According to Cryptonews, the Central Bank of Russia announced that the country's central bank digital currency (CBDC), the digital ruble, will be officially launched nationwide on September 1, 2026. The nation's largest commercial banks are expected to begin offering full CBDC transaction services to customers starting September next year, with smaller and regional banks following by September 2027.
The Central Bank of Russia has submitted a draft bill to the State Duma, aiming to swiftly incorporate its requirements for the banking sector into Russian law. Lawmakers previously stated that the Russian CBDC will achieve interoperability with digital currencies issued by other BRICS countries and could be used in cross-border trade, helping Russian traders circumvent sanctions.
