TechFlow, June 12 — According to Jinshi Data, U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent said Wednesday that the Trump administration is willing to extend the current 90-day tariff pause beyond July 9, provided that America's major trading partners demonstrate "sincerity" in ongoing negotiations. Speaking at a hearing held by the House Ways and Means Committee in Washington, Bessent stated that the U.S. has 18 "significant trading partners," with whom the Trump administration is actively working to reach agreements. For countries and trading blocs (such as the EU) that are "negotiating in good faith," it is "very likely" that the U.S. will "push back the deadline to continue sincere negotiations. If someone isn't negotiating, then we won't negotiate."
Trump administration officials have not yet formally indicated their willingness to extend the tariff pause if no "terms of agreement" are reached before the suspension expires. However, Bessent's remarks suggest that, as the deadline approaches, the Trump administration may be more inclined to adjust its self-imposed timeline.
