TechFlow news, June 6 — According to Decrypt, Meta's Oversight Board ordered the removal on Thursday of a deceptive AI-generated video advertisement featuring Brazilian football legend Ronaldo. The ad misled users into participating in an online game called Plinko with false profit promises. The board criticized Meta for failing to enforce its anti-fraud policies strictly, noting that despite being reported and having garnered over 600,000 views, the video was not promptly removed. This incident highlights platforms' inadequate control over AI-generated impersonations of celebrities; Jamie Lee Curtis previously publicly questioned Zuckerberg over a similar issue. Recently, U.S. President Trump signed the "Take It Down Act," requiring platforms to remove AI-generated images shared without consent within 48 hours, addressing the growing abuse of deepfakes.
