TechFlow, June 2 — According to Cointelegraph, BitMEX thwarted a cyberattack by North Korea's Lazarus Group hackers, who targeted its employees through fake NFT partnership offers on LinkedIn. BitMEX stated that the hackers' tactics were not sophisticated.
The Lazarus Group reportedly contacted a BitMEX employee on LinkedIn, proposing an NFT partnership, with the real aim of tricking the employee into running malicious code from a GitHub repository. After reviewing the repository, the employee flagged suspicious code, prompting BitMEX’s security team to swiftly investigate, identify obfuscated JavaScript, and trace it back to infrastructure linked to Lazarus.
