TechFlow news, May 29 — According to Jinshi Data, the U.S. Court of International Trade on Wednesday blocked President Trump's "Liberation Day" tariffs from taking effect, ruling that Trump's invocation of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to impose sweeping tariffs based on trade deficits constituted an overreach of authority. The Manhattan-based court stated that the U.S. Constitution grants Congress the exclusive power to regulate trade with other nations, and the president’s emergency powers in foreign affairs cannot override this principle. The lawsuit was filed by the nonpartisan Liberty Justice Center on behalf of five small American businesses that import goods from countries targeted by the tariffs, marking the first major legal challenge to Trump’s tariff measures. All five businesses argued that the tariffs would harm their operations. This case is one of seven legal challenges to Trump’s tariff policy, with others brought by 13 U.S. states and various small business groups.
