TechFlow, May 23 — According to Decrypt, Ember Sword, an Ethereum-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game, has announced its shutdown. Developer Bright Star Studios stated it was forced to halt development due to inability to secure funding required for continued operations.
The game rose to prominence during the 2021 metaverse boom, raising $203 million through NFT land sales. It previously secured $2 million in funding from notable investors including streamer Dr. Disrespect and Sebastien Borget, co-founder of The Sandbox, and enlisted veteran gaming figures such as Rob Pardo, former lead designer of World of Warcraft, as advisors. After receiving poor feedback during its closed beta launch in July 2024, the game ultimately failed to recover even after migrating to Mantle, an Ethereum Layer 2 network.
