TechFlow, May 23 — According to the Financial Times citing sources, Trump's trade negotiators are pressuring the European Union to unilaterally cut tariffs on U.S. goods, warning that without such concessions, no progress can be made in negotiations. U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer plans to inform EU Trade Commissioner Šefčovič today that the EU's recent submission of an "interpretative note" for the talks falls short of U.S. expectations. The United States is dissatisfied that the EU has only proposed mutual tariff reductions, rather than committing to unilateral cuts like other trade partners. Additionally, the EU has not included its proposed digital tax in the negotiation agenda as requested by the U.S. Sources noted that while the EU has consistently pushed for establishing a mutually agreed framework text for negotiations, significant differences in positions remain.
