TechFlow, May 8 — According to The Block, G7 leaders may discuss North Korea's cyberattacks and cryptocurrency theft at the upcoming summit in Canada this June. Data shows that in 2024, North Korean hackers stole $1.34 billion through 47 incidents, accounting for 61% of total crypto thefts for the year. In February, the North Korea-linked hacking group Lazarus Group was accused of orchestrating a $1.4 billion attack on the Bybit exchange. White House officials stated that North Korea is using proceeds from cryptocurrency thefts to fund its weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile programs. Despite sanctions imposed by the U.S. and other countries, such attacks continue to occur and are becoming increasingly sophisticated.
