TechFlow news, May 5 — According to Crowdfund Insider, on May 1 cryptocurrency exchange Kraken disclosed an incident in which North Korean hackers attempted to infiltrate the platform through a job interview. The hacker posed as a software engineer applicant, used a name inconsistent with the resume during the interview, and concealed their location using a remote Mac desktop and a VPN.
Kraken's Chief Security Officer Nick Percoco led the security team in investigating the suspicious candidate and found links to state-sponsored cyberattacks. This incident highlights the ongoing threat posed by North Korean hacking groups to the cryptocurrency industry. In February this year, the notorious Lazarus group attacked Bybit, causing a record $1.4 billion loss. In 2024, North Korean hackers have stolen over $650 million from cryptocurrency firms.
