TechFlow, on May 5, according to Le Monde, French police successfully rescued the father of a kidnapped cryptocurrency entrepreneur in Essonne, south of Paris, on Saturday evening. The victim was reportedly abducted by four masked men in Paris's 14th arrondissement last Thursday.
The report stated that the kidnappers severed one of the victim's fingers and demanded a ransom of $5.6–7.95 million (approximately €5–7 million) in cryptocurrency. During the rescue operation, police arrested five suspects in their twenties. The Paris prosecutor's office said the victim is the father of an operator of a cryptocurrency marketing company registered in Malta.
This incident marks the third kidnapping case related to cryptocurrency in France this year. In January, David Balland, co-founder of hardware wallet maker Ledger, was similarly kidnapped. Prior to the rescue, the victim's family had not paid any ransom.
