TechFlow, May 2 — According to a recent post by Kraken, its team recently discovered a North Korean hacker attempting to infiltrate the company by applying for a job. The suspicious candidate used a different name during onboarding than the one on their resume, and changed it quickly. Even more suspiciously, the candidate occasionally switched voices. A list of email addresses linked to this hacking group, received by Kraken, included an address matching the one used by the candidate to apply.
Armed with this intelligence, Kraken's team launched an investigation using open-source intelligence (OSINT) methods. During the final interview round, the team asked the candidate to verify their location, present a government-issued ID, and even recommend some local restaurants in their city. The interviewee became flustered and unprepared, ultimately proving that this was not a legitimate applicant, but an impostor attempting to breach our systems.
