TechFlow, April 12 — According to Reuters, venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz (A16z) is in talks to lead a new funding round for Thinking Machines Lab, an artificial intelligence startup founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati. Sources indicate the round could raise up to $2 billion, potentially valuing the company at $10 billion. Sequoia Capital is also reportedly discussing participation in the round.
Thinking Machines Lab was established in February 2025 with the goal of developing safer and more reliable AI systems. The company currently has around 30 researchers and engineers, two-thirds of whom are former OpenAI employees. Notably, Bob McGrew, former Chief Research Officer at OpenAI, and Alec Radford, former Principal Researcher at OpenAI, both serve as advisors to the company.
