TechFlow news, April 8 — Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced today that officials will be dispatched to Washington to engage in dialogue with the United States over trade tariffs. This move responds to the recent 24% import tariff imposed by the Trump administration on Malaysia. As the current ASEAN chair, Malaysia will participate in negotiations alongside other ASEAN member states. The Trump administration has imposed varying levels of tariffs on all ten ASEAN countries, ranging from 10% on Singapore to 49% on Cambodia. Anwar emphasized that Malaysia-U.S. trade has long been mutually beneficial, but the new tariff policy could harm both sides, and he called on ASEAN nations to continue expanding market ties with Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
