TechFlow reported on March 18, according to Jinshi Data, Australian Treasurer Chalmers said in a speech in Queensland that the Australian government would avoid engaging in a "race to the bottom" on tariff issues, adding that the Trump administration's broad use of tariffs was "counterproductive and self-defeating."
Chalmers stated that the rules underpinning global economic engagement for over 40 years are clearly being rewritten. He added that the decision not to exempt Australia from U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs was "disappointing, unnecessary, meaningless, and wrong."
