TechFlow news — On March 13, Senate Democrats met to discuss the temporary funding bill passed by the Republican-controlled House. The Senate needs 60 votes to advance the bill, while Republicans hold only 53 Senate seats, with just two days remaining before a partial government shutdown. Senate Democratic Leader Schumer urged extending current spending levels for another month to allow time to finalize more comprehensive appropriations legislation this year, but this strategy is unlikely to succeed.
Schumer warned that all 47 Democratic senators opposed the House-passed 6.5-month funding bill, with only one Democrat in the House voting in favor. In brief remarks to the Senate, Schumer said, “I hope our Republican colleagues will join us to avoid a shutdown on Friday.” Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin responded, “If they choose to shut down the government, it’s 100% Schumer shutting it down.”
