TechFlow news — On March 5, according to Jinshi News, the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has concluded its review of the partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI, deciding against launching a formal investigation. The CMA initiated the review in December 2023 to determine whether Microsoft’s investment in OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, constituted a de facto merger that could restrict competition in the UK market.
After evaluation, the CMA concluded that the collaboration between Microsoft and OpenAI does not constitute anti-competitive behavior, thus ending further investigations. A Microsoft spokesperson said: “Our partnership with OpenAI and its continued development fosters competition, innovation, and responsible AI advancement. We welcome the CMA’s conclusion, reached after careful consideration of commercial realities, to close this review.”
