TechFlow reports that on March 1, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin posted: "Imposing life imprisonment for non-violent tax offenses is absurd. The case against 'Bitcoin Jesus' Roger Ver appears highly politically motivated—much like the case of Ross Ulbricht, founder of the Silk Road darknet marketplace. Many individuals and companies accused of far more serious crimes have received sentences far lighter than what Roger faces. If the IRS indeed threatened Roger's lawyers to obtain confidential information, that would be malicious conduct; the right to attorney-client privilege must remain sacred and inviolable. Genuine good-faith mistakes should be corrected by giving individuals the opportunity to pay owed taxes, including interest and penalties, rather than through prosecution."
