TechFlow news, February 28 — According to CryptoSlate, the Central Bank of Russia has announced an indefinite postponement of the full launch of its digital ruble project.
The Central Bank of Russia has been conducting tests on its central bank digital currency (CBDC) since August 2023, running a limited pilot program that trialed wallet functionality, fund transfers, and automated payments.
The launch has reportedly been delayed as the Russian government decides to extend the pilot phase to further refine technical aspects and allow banks to evaluate the economic model. Central Bank Chair Elvira Nabiullina is said to have confirmed the delay, emphasizing that the additional time will help financial institutions adopt models suitable for their clients.
