TechFlow news, February 26 — According to The Information, two sources familiar with the matter revealed that Meta Platforms (META.O) is in talks to build a new data center campus for its artificial intelligence operations, a project that would dwarf anything the company has done so far and become the largest of its kind.
One of the sources said the cost could exceed $200 billion based on the number of chips and the power consumption under discussion for the campus. The proposed new data center campus, previously unreported, would be several times larger than the new AI data center Zuckerberg discussed last month in Louisiana.
The discussions indicate that Meta is preparing to meet surging demand from billions of users for generative AI by rolling out AI chatbots across all its applications. They also suggest that Zuckerberg may stop at nothing to catch up with rival OpenAI.
