TechFlow reported on February 20 that Aptos Research Lead Alexander Spiegelman took to social media to accuse Monad of copying its technology, expressing confusion over why Monad would spend significant time copying Aptos' work, noting that these technologies are open-source and supported by peer-reviewed papers.
In response, Monad co-founder James Hunsaker pushed back, stating he had been researching Software Transactional Memory (STM) in Haskell environments years ago, and that BlockSTM is merely a straightforward extension of those earlier techniques. He emphasized that he has never looked at any Aptos code.
