TechFlow news, February 11 — According to IBTimes, former U.S. President Trump signed an executive order imposing tariffs on steel and aluminum imports from several countries and regions, including the European Union, starting March 12, 2025. Under the order, additional ad valorem tariffs will be levied on aluminum products imported from Argentina, Australia, Canada, Mexico, EU countries, and the United Kingdom.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated that the EU would take "firm and proportionate countermeasures" against what she called an "unjustified" U.S. tariff decision, to protect the economic interests of the EU, its workers, businesses, and consumers. EU Trade Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis warned that this would create a "lose-lose" situation, as the tariffs would tax American citizens, raise business costs, and exacerbate inflation.
