TechFlow news, on January 19, a seminar on "Disposal of Virtual Currency in Cases" hosted by the Law School of Renmin University of China was held in Beijing. Representatives from departments including the Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, and the Ministry of Public Security, as well as nearly 60 participants from academia, legal practice, and enterprises attended the event.
Yu Haisong, Deputy Director of the Research Office of the Supreme People's Court, pointed out that discussions on virtual currency issues must be based on current regulatory policies. He suggested clarifying the legal boundaries for virtual currency disposal at the policy level and optimizing specific issues such as timing and procedures at the technical level.
He Ting, Professor and Deputy Dean of the Criminal Law Science Research Institute at Beijing Normal University, stated that virtual currency does not fall under prohibited items and can serve as an object in property-related crimes. He emphasized the need to differentiate the categories and roles of virtual currencies in various types of crimes, adopt different disposal approaches accordingly, and regulate disposal through effective interaction between technology and legal norms.
