TechFlow reported on January 9 that, according to Cointelegraph, a legal lawsuit filed by James Howells, an IT engineer from Newport, Wales, seeking to recover a hard drive containing bitcoins has been dismissed by a judge. The hard drive holds over 8,000 bitcoins mined in 2009, currently worth approximately $770 million, which was accidentally discarded into a landfill in 2013.
Keyser, a judge at the Circuit Commercial Court in Wales, stated the case had "no real prospect of success." Since 2013, Howells has repeatedly requested permission from Newport City Council to search the landfill site, promising to share the recovered bitcoins, but has consistently been denied due to environmental permitting issues.
