TechFlow reported on January 7 that, according to Cointelegraph, Bianca Wyler, project lead for Reddit Collectible Avatars (RCA), stated on LinkedIn: "My work journey at Reddit has come to an end. While I'm sad about this transition, I'm incredibly proud of what I've accomplished during my time there." Some Reddit users noticed that Wyler's recent comments on her Reddit account have been deleted.
Following the news, NFT holders expressed concerns over the product's future, viewing her sudden departure as a potential sign that the social platform may soon make adjustments to the avatar project. In an interview, Wyler explained that her departure reflects the natural evolution of social media companies as they explore new technologies and shift priorities. While uncertain about the future direction of the RCA project, she expressed confidence that Reddit would continue to act in the best interests of its community.
Launched in July 2022, RCA was promoted as limited-edition digital art created in collaboration with independent artists. According to data from Dune Analytics, the total number of current NFT holders exceeds 33.5 million. Since peaking at the end of 2022, sales volume has not recovered, with monthly secondary market trading hovering around $100,000 in the final quarter of 2024, while overall trading volume has declined since its 2022 peak.
